PARENT FAQs
How can I help my child prepare?
One of the best ways to help your child prepare is to help them memorize their card. Teachers distribute an Expert, Character, or American Experiment card a few weeks in advance of the presentation. Help your child memorize the card. If they have a Character Card, assist them in acting out their card. Costumes are also a great way to get your child enthusiastic about the presentation
I read that my child should wear a costume. Can I purchase one from your company?
We encourage students to make their costumes with items they already have at home. There are many costumes ideas on our website. Some of our favorite costumes have been ones that kids make on their own. It is also a great way for students to express their creativity and uniqueness!
My child lost their card. What should they do?
Please see the teacher before the program as extra cards can be provided. Or, you can find the Walk Through cards on this website in the Student/Teacher pages.
Where can my child find answers to their Walk Through California question?
We encourage students to research for their answer in their history book, library or the internet (with parent’s permission).
How long is the presentation?
This interactive presentation is two and a half hours. The assigned student cards and activities are called by the presenter at various points throughout. If you are unable to stay for the entire presentation, go to “Teachers” and “Helpful Resources” to find the order in which assigned parts are called for Walk Through the American Revolution and Walk Through the Ancient World. Due to the order of the Walk Through California presentation and our presenters’ unique styles, we cannot offer an accurate order of Walk Through California Expert Cards. If you need information regarding the order of Walk Through California, please email us at programs@californiaweekly.com.
What if I cannot stay for the entire presentation?
You are welcome to stay for the entire presentation but we understand that sometimes this is not possible. We do encourage audience members to attend the entire presentation as oftentimes we hear how much they too learned and how fast the time goes by. However, if you are unable to stay you can find a basic order of Walk Through the American Revolution and Walk Through the Ancient World by choosing “Teachers” and “Helpful Resources” on this site. Due to the order of the Walk Through California presentation and our presenters’ unique styles, we cannot offer an accurate order of Walk Through California Expert Cards. If you need information regarding the order of Walk Through California, please email us at programs@californiaweekly.com.
May I bring small children with me to the program?
Since the presentation is 2 ½ hours in length, bringing small children is not advised. However, younger audience members can attend, but please help them to be quiet and be prepared to take them outside if they become distracting. The presentation is a standards-based history lesson and distractions may take away from the students’ comprehension of the material.
Can I take photographs and/or videotape the presentation?
Due to copyright restrictions, we must limit videotaping to small portions. You may take video of your student enacting their parts, but avoid videotaping lengthy portions of the program. You are welcome to take as many photographs during the presentation as you like. For your safety and the safety of the students, please avoid entering the presentation area to take photographs.
