Walk Through California Overview
Welcome to Walk Through California! This presentation is designed to give you and your classmates an opportunity to become a part of history! Throughout the presentation you will actively participate in a friendly competition against other teams in your class. The presentation is packed with games, music, historical re-enactments and storytelling all to help history come alive in your classroom!
Your presenter will guide you and your classmates through all the fun of Walk Through California, exploring some famous events, historical figures, and vocabulary that you are or will be studying in fourth grade! The first half includes California history from the indigenous period up to statehood. The presentation concludes with you and your classmates building a large topographical/relief map of California together on the floor.
Your teacher will place you on a team with other classmates and will assign you an expert word card that contains a definition to be memorized and recited or read out loud. Since you are the expert, your word will also include a question for you to look up the answer and be ready to provide when your presenter says your word! Be sure to listen for your expert word (it could be called at any time during the presentation!) and brush up on answering in a full and complete sentence! (hint: you might get extra points for that!)
To show teamwork and enthusiasm, you and your classmates can dress in a costume depicting your expert word or in historical attire from a famous Californian or historical period from California’s past. To learn more about costumes or historical attire, click on the link below.
The most important part is, come ready to have fun! (and learn a few cool things too!)
